What Is This?
A simple tool which you
can use to perform some "what if" scenarios by putting in game
results for your Football League
Often
you are trying to work out what you need to do to make finals or achieve a
certain position on the table,
or even just give your
team motivation to show them where they will finish if they achieve certain
results
This
allows you to speculate on the results of the next 13 games in your
competition, and see how the points
will change, which could
determine where you finish on the table
How does it work?
Based
on you selecting the result of a game, by allocating a Win or a Loss (Draws
also catered for) to a team,
the points for that team
are calculated.
You can then see in real
time, by changing a the series of wins and losses, how this will affect your
teams ranking.
What fields can I
change?
You
can (and have to in order for it to work!) change the names of the teams to
suit your competition,
their points that they
start with and the result per team (eg W or L or D) in rows I thru U.
You can also change the
number of points allocated for a Win or a Draw to suit your competition
(cells B17 and B19)
You
should also change the "No of Teams" field (B22) to show the No of
Teams that qualify for finals in your
competition, as then the
teams that are ranked within that number will be highlighted
How do I save my
scenarios so I can do others to compare later?
In
order to copy and paste your different scenarios, copy the whole table, then
click on "Paste Special…" after you've selected where you want to
paste it and
select the
"Values" radio button and press okay.If you don't do this you'll get a whole heap of
"#VALUE" showing in fields because it's trying to use the formulae
When I've done my
Scenarios, how do I then sort the results?
Once
you've copied your scenarios to the "Saved Scenarios" sheet as per
the instructions above,
you
can then select all of the data for a scenario by highlighting it, then go up
to the "Data" menu
and
select "Sort…".A box will
appear asking you for details on how you want the data sorted,
make
sure the "Header Row" radio button is selected, then select
"Points" from the first picklist
and
select "descending" for the radio button next to it, press
"OK" and your scenario will be sorted
to show the teams from
highest to lowest points.You could
also do a subsequent sort on no. of wins
What if I want to
predict more than 13 games ahead?
You can simply do the
first 13 games, then input the total points into the Initial Points column,
then start again.
This will allow you to
do as many multiples of 13 games as you like, or whatever you need.
